In my diagrams, I make the assumption that you have at least some familiarity with origami. If you know the basic symbology, you'll be fine, I think. My designs are not too complex. If you're not sure how to make a bird base or frog base, You'll probably want to look at some Origami Basics.
Most models use kami: traditional square paper, colored one-side, white on the reverse. There are exceptions, though.
